Frequently asked questions

Can Inverter & Battery vision be black-started?

Yes.

Instructions for how to perform a black-start of the system can be found in our online operating instructions.

https://www.solarwatt.co.uk/manuals/solarwatt-battery-vision/operation/restarting-and-black-starting

Does the main AC cable have to be disconnected in this case?

The AC main (grid) cable does not need to be disconnected. The system will immediately switch back to the mains when it is available again.

Is there a wall mount for Battery vision?

SOLARWATT does not offer a wall bracket for Battery vision.

The battery must be placed on a stable solid surface and fixed to the wall with the included wall brackets (which secure the tower to the wall, but are not load bearing). Please observe the specified clearances:

https://www.solarwatt.co.uk/manuals/solarwatt-battery-vision/installation/installing-battery-vision

Solarwatt accepts no responsibility for individually created stands or brackets etc.

Can I use Battery and Inverter vision for an off-grid installation?

No. The system must be connected to the power grid. Permanent stand-alone ("island mode") operation is not permitted.

Does Battery vision require maintenance?

Our 'Battery vision' system, consisting of the individual components 'Inverter vision' 'Battery vision pack and top pack' and 'Meter', can initially be operated maintenance-free; there are no mandatory requirements for maintenance work to be carried out to preserve their function.

However, the products are electrotechnical components that can be checked for safety and function as part of a recurring inspection of electrical systems or must be checked in public buildings. The term 'maintenance services' in the Solarwatt warranty conditions is to be understood in this context. In this case, the note for maintenance work in the online manual of the product applies: 'Only qualified installers who have been trained by Solarwatt may carry out service and maintenance work on Battery vision.'

Is it possible to charge the battery in backup mode using an alternator?

It is not possible to charge the battery in backup mode via an AC generator connected to the AC connection of the inverter. In backup mode, there is no mains voltage and no mains frequency, so the AC connection is switched off.

Currently, the only way to charge the battery in backup mode is via the PV modules connected directly to the vision one/three hybrid inverter.

Is there a maximum power for each phase in backup power mode with Inverter vision three?

The only requirement is that one phase must not be loaded with more than 1/3 of the rated power.

Is there a time limit for adding on additional Battery vision packs after the first installation?

There is no time limit for retrofitting a Battery vision tower with more packs.

However, due to the series connection of the batteries, it should be noted that the ageing process of the battery packs means that the weakest pack always determines the maximum capacity of the battery overall. This means that the later you retrofit packs, less the full capacity of the retrofitted pack can be used. Thanks to the high quality of SOLARWATT Battery vision packs and the extensive Solarwatt guarantees, these technical issues do not play a major role, especially in the first few years.

Another reason not to wait too long with a planned expansion: the product must be available for problem-free retrofitting. Constant technical developments mean that every product reaches the end of its life cycle, i.e. it is no longer produced and therefore there is no longer any possibility of retrofitting. Product discontinuations are announced several months in advance, however, so that existing customers are informed when retrofitting will be possible for the last time.

Since Battery vision is floor-mounted, are the four feet included or sold separately?

Yes, the feet are included with the Battery vision top pack, as well as a termination plug for the unused connection of the bottom Battery vision pack.

As a result, you'll need to open the Battery vision top pack box first - even though the installation starts with the bottom pack.

What are the required clearances for installing Battery and Inverter vision?

All specifications regarding the installation location and distances for Battery vision and Inverter vision can be found in the online installation instructions here:

What happens to my Battery vision warranty if I add more packs to my system and how do I register their warranty?

In accordance with our applicable warranty conditions for the product, Solarwatt also offers you voluntary warranty services for this expansion component, which apply independently of statutory warranty rights.

Activate the warranty here: https://solarwatt.my.site.com/forms/s/activation?language=en_US

Our warranty services apply to your battery system including the inverter, whereby the warranty period for the system starts with the initial commissioning. Our warranty conditions stipulate that for additional battery vision packs within the meaning of this system warranty, the start of the warranty period is backdated to the date of initial commissioning (see B 3. of the warranty conditions). The recording of the date of commissioning of the retrofitted battery vision packs serves to complete your system and does not mark the start of the warranty for the retrofitted battery vision pack.

What is the maximum length between CHINT meter DDSU/DTSU and Inverter vision?

The maximum length is 100m.

We officially recommend the use of a shielded cable with twisted pairs for RS485 communication, e.g. LIYCY (TP) 2x2x0.34 mm² for indoor use, and for outdoor use a UV and weather-resistant equivalent cable that complies with the required IP protection class IP65. However, using two cores of a high-quality CAT5e Ethernet LAN cable will also work - just make sure to use a cable tester to check the pin outs before running the cable!
