Today, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero published the long-anticipated government-industry Solar Roadmap co developed with Solar Energy UK outlining practical measures to boost the supply of cheaper power, deliver new industries and create skills jobs, while providing significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and gains in biodiversity.

The UK’s new Solar Roadmap sets an ambitious goal: 45–47 GW of solar by 2030, supporting up to 35,000 jobs—using less than 0.5% of UK land.

Key initiatives include:

  • Solar-ready new homes via the Future Homes Standard
  • Exploring solar in car parks across the UK
  • Unlocking plug-in solar panels for renters and flat owners
  • Tackling skills gaps to grow the clean energy workforce

88% of Brits support solar. Since July, nearly 3 GW of large-scale solar has been approved—more than the last 14 years combined. That’s enough to power over 500,000 homes.

SOLARWATT UK & Ireland welcome the announcement and look forward to seeing the impact on the UK's solar industry.
