SOLARWATT Home app wins German Innovation Award 2026 – Several new app features enhance the user experience
Dresden, 13 May 2026 – Solarwatt has been awarded the prestigious German Innovation Award 2026 for the SOLARWATT Home app in the category “Excellence in Business to Consumer – Smart Living”. The award ceremony took place yesterday, Tuesday, in Berlin. The SOLARWATT Home app monitors and controls the entire energy system in the home via a single app – from electricity generation by the PV system and storage to smart consumption within the household or via heat pumps and EV Chargers. The Solarwatt app uses an open architecture. This means, for example, that hardware from different manufacturers and any electricity tariffs can be easily integrated – giving users and installers the greatest possible freedom.
Solarwatt customers receive up-to-date and historical data via the SOLARWATT Home app on their solar generation, electricity storage, EV Charger and heat pump, as well as all other smart-connected devices, explains Jahn Götzel, Director of Digital Products and Services at Solarwatt:
“They can then control these components individually or automatically. In addition, they also find personalised tips on optimisation and cost savings and can implement these measures directly within the app.”
SOLARWATT Home app: Solarwatt launches new features
The Europe-wide company is currently launching several new features in the SOLARWATT Home app to further optimise the user experience for Solarwatt customers. For example, the app automatically retrieves current electricity exchange prices and prices from electricity suppliers. The SOLARWATT Home app then calculates the user’s individual electricity price for a selected period based on grid consumption and self-consumption of PV energy. This gives them an overview of their current actual electricity costs at any time. The navigation of the SOLARWATT Home app can also be customised entirely to suit the customer’s needs. Furthermore, Solarwatt has integrated new help pages that explain all the app’s functions in simple terms.
The German Innovation Award recognises products, projects and pioneering achievements that sustainably improve lives through innovation, progress and social value. The award is presented in two categories: “Excellence in Business to Consumer” and “Excellence in Business to Business”. In addition, projects are recognised in the overarching categories “AI Methods”, “Circular Impacts” and “Transformative Solutions”. The jury comprises independent, interdisciplinary experts from the fields technology, digitalisation, science and institutions. They assess the entries according to the criteria of innovation, user benefit and cost-effectiveness.
“Great recognition for the entire Solarwatt team”
“Winning the German Innovation Award 2026 is a great recognition for the entire team, who have put their heart and soul into designing our Home app over the past few years. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who contributed to the development of the app,” says Jahn Götzel, who accepted the award in Berlin.
Lutz Dietzold, Managing Director of the German Design Council, says of the German Innovation Award 2026: “Innovations are the driving force behind progress and future viability. They provide new answers to complex challenges and create real benefits for people, markets and society. With the German Innovation Award, we give these ideas visibility and promote dialogue on effective, forward-looking solutions. The projects from the 2026 award year impressively demonstrate how broadly and powerfully the spirit of innovation is at work today — across industries and with lasting relevance.”
