The UK Government has launched the Warm Homes Loan Scheme, introducing government-backed finance designed to make technologies including solar PV, battery storage and heat pumps more accessible to households.

The scheme will operate through participating lenders, offering no- and low-interest finance for eligible home energy improvements. Government support can reduce interest rates by up to five percentage points compared with lenders' standard loans, with a range of finance options available.

MCS-certified installers central to delivery

For the installer sector, a key part of the announcement is the requirement for installations financed through the scheme to be MCS certified.

MCS says this requirement will help provide assurance around the quality of installations and consumer protection. Depending on the finance product, customers may access finance through participating lenders or, in some cases, through an approved installer or mortgage provider. https://mcscertified.com/mcs-certified-installers-to-deliver-warm-homes-loan-scheme/

The announcement potentially provides another route for households looking to invest in solar, storage and low-carbon heating, while reinforcing the importance of trusted, certified installation.

A more connected approach to home energy

The inclusion of solar PV, battery storage and heat pumps also reflects the growing move towards looking at home energy as a connected system rather than a collection of individual technologies.

That aligns closely with the approach behind SOLARWATT Home: generating renewable electricity, storing energy and using it intelligently across the home, including heating and electric mobility.

Power. Heat. Mobility. Together.

There is still more to unpack as the scheme develops, including how individual finance products will work in practice. However, improving access to technologies that can work together as part of a complete home energy system is a welcome step forward.
